NASAL breathing is the optimal way to get the best oxygen to our muscles, tissues, and brain. It’s called the “Bohr Effect”. It allows for the release of oxygen from the red blood cells to be metabolized by the body. Maintaining the proper balance of CO2 in our blood.
Nitric Oxide(NO) helps to dilate the blood vessels. It is mainly produced in your nose. Mouth breathing does not produce any NO. Nitric oxide also has an antimicrobial effect on a broad spectrum of viruses, bacteria and fungi.
NASAL BREATHING has a greater exchange of oxygen than mouth breathing. The oxygen exchange happens in our alveoli between the branches 13-23. Mouth breathing does not fully use all of our alveoli.
Many people suffer from anxiety. Mouth breathing is chest breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing triggers your parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation.
